NXN, MENA region’s leading Smart City consultancy, is working to carry out cutting edge research in the Smart City space with twenty six MBA students from The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, located in Ontario, Canada.   Five teams from the Rotman School will collaborate with NXN consultants to elaborate on topics including the governance of Smart Cities, business models for public, private partnerships and how managed services can help deliver on Smart City objectives. The research will also consider the development of Smart Cities within the MENA Region, thus dealing with region specific issues. During the course of their work, the Rotman School team will be visiting Dubai and Abu Dhabi, therefore interfacing with the NXN specialist consultant team both virtually and in person.   “The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto is a world renowned business school and we are very much looking forward to the fresh and critical thinking their teams will bring to the Smart City arena to complement our broad body of existing research,” Ghazi Atallah, Managing Director at NXN, has commented on the alliance.   Dr. Walid Hejazi, Professor in International Business at The Rotman School of Management, believes that exposing students to the evolving Smart City framework will be very positive for their evolution into business leaders.  He commented, “Working with NXNwill give our MBA students direct access to the latest thinking on Smart Cities, and the alliance will produce innovative and new research on the subject.”   Schedule of Research   The Rotman School team will explore five subjects:

  • Topic: Are GCC countries ready to evolve into smarter cities with the prevalent economic pressures of oil prices being what they are? Rotman Team:  Tiffany Gao, Cindy Li, Louisa Shen,  Sookie Guo
  • Topic: Are smart city managed services an effective means for cities and districts to take advantage of? If so how? Rotman Team:  Arthur Gazzalle, Amy Li, Susie Aquino, Gabriela Furtado, Faizan Lakhany, Oleg Dudchenko
  • Topic: Many countries in the Middle East face the immediate challenge of re-establishing or maintaining macroeconomic stability amid political uncertainty and social unrest, but the region must not lose sight of the medium-term challenge of diversifying its economies, creating jobs, and generating more inclusive growth.  What role do smart cities play in this new reality?
